PALGO Journals Policy on the Use of Generative Artificial Intelligence (GenAI)
PALGO Journals recognizes the growing role of Generative Artificial Intelligence (GenAI) technologies in academic research and publishing. This policy provides guidance on the responsible, transparent, and ethical use of such tools in manuscript preparation and submission.
1. Scope of the Policy
This policy applies to all submissions to PALGO Journals, including original research articles, reviews, case studies, and other scholarly works. It covers the use of AI tools such as ChatGPT and similar systems capable of generating text, images, data, or analytical outputs.
2. Acceptable Use of GenAI
Authors may use GenAI tools for:
- Language editing and grammar improvement
- Summarization of existing content
- Idea structuring and brainstorming support
Such use must not compromise the originality, integrity, or scholarly contribution of the manuscript.
3. Mandatory Disclosure
Authors are required to clearly disclose any use of GenAI tools in their manuscript. Disclosure should include:
- The name of the AI tool used
- The purpose for which it was used
- The extent of its contribution
This information should be included in a dedicated section (e.g., “Acknowledgments” or “Methods”).
4. Authorship and Accountability
GenAI tools cannot be listed as authors. Authorship is restricted to individuals who meet established academic authorship criteria, as defined by bodies such as the International Committee of Medical Journal Editors.
All listed authors are fully responsible for:
- The accuracy and validity of the content
- Proper citation and avoidance of plagiarism
- Compliance with ethical and publishing standards
5. Prohibited Uses
The following uses of GenAI are strictly prohibited:
- Fabrication or falsification of data
- Generation of misleading or non-verifiable results
- Undisclosed AI-generated content presented as original work
- Use of AI in peer review or editorial decision-making without authorization
6. Data Privacy and Confidentiality
Authors must not upload confidential, proprietary, or unpublished data into GenAI tools where such data may be stored, reused, or exposed. Compliance with data protection and privacy standards is mandatory.
7. Ethical Compliance
This policy aligns with best practices recommended by organizations such as the Committee on Publication Ethics. Any misuse of GenAI tools may be treated as a breach of publication ethics and could result in manuscript rejection, retraction, or further disciplinary action.
8. Editorial Oversight
PALGO Journals reserves the right to:
- Screen submissions for AI-generated content
- Request additional disclosures or clarifications
- Reject manuscripts that do not comply with this policy
9. Policy Updates
As GenAI technologies evolve, PALGO Journals will periodically review and update this policy to reflect emerging standards and ethical considerations.
